Killers of the Flower Moon-Too Slow and Too Long

I watched half of the movie-Killers of the Flower Moon at our Cinema the other night. After 1.5 hours, I got bored and went back to my apartment.  Today, I read in Wikipedia, the ending of the movie.  

The movie had 10 academy award nominations but had mixed reviews. It was too long and too slow for me. It is not as entertaining as Oppenheimer and a little longer.  

I agree 100% of the following review: 

"Ploddingly slow. Could easily have been 45 minutes shorter without sacrificing any of the story line that was included. Full of Oklahoman and Native American stereotyping. The movie focuses on Leo's character, Ernest Burkhardt. It would have been far more intriguing for the film to focus on De Niro's character, William King Hale".

Killers of the Flower Moon is a 2023 American epic western crime drama filmdirected and produced by Martin Scorsese. Eric Roth and Scorsese based their screenplay on the 2017 non-fiction book by David Grann.^[7][8] Set in 1920s Oklahoma, it focuses on a series of murders of Osage members and relations in the Osage Nation after oil was discovered on tribal land. The tribal members had retained mineral rights on their reservation, but a corrupt local political boss sought to steal the tribal members' wealth.

Killers of the Flower Moon premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2023. It was theatrically released in the United States on October 20, 2023, by Paramount Pictures and Apple Original Films. The film has grossed over $156 million worldwide and received critical acclaim, with praise for Scorsese's direction, the screenplay, production values, editing, cinematography, musical score, and cast performances (especially DiCaprio, Gladstone, and De Niro), although the runtime received criticism. It won Best Film at the National Board of Review and was named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the American Film Institute. It was also nominated for ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture, seven Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, with Gladstone winning Best Actress Motion Picture - Drama, as well as nine British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film.

Amazing Science Discovery in the Philippines Just Recently

I found this video super interesting.  I guarantee you will find the video very educational and worth your time, whether you like history or archaeology.   It is about 12 minutes and an excellent description of the Philippines today. Six amazing Discoveries are discussed: The Butchered Rhinoceros, Nickel-Eating Plant, Homo Luzonensis, Angono Petroglyphs, Laguna Copper Plates and Limestone Coffins/Graves.

Debris due to the gusty winds the whole day from the Eucalyptus trees created a mess in my patio. Luckily we did not have a Power Outage.  Neighboring Communities ( Roosmoor) did not have electricity whole day yesterday.

Of the many numerous activities here at THD, the Zumba Exercises conducted by Sabrina Monahan is one of my favorite activity here at THD. It comes 3rd after Bridge(1st) and Hongkong Mahjong( 2nd). Thanks to Martha's daughter for taking the photos. Martha's daughter is visiting her Mom. She is from Shingle Springs, CA. Shingle Springs is very close to Fair Oaks, my former home.

Welcome, Jay R Pollack- THD Internet Presence

Jay Pollack moved to THD two weeks ago.  THD management assigned me to be his greeter. Here's a short bio of Jay.  Please joined me in welcoming Jay to our friendly community.

Jay grew up in Brooklyn, New York.  He went to college and law school in Brooklyn.  In 1971 he moved to LA for his first law job.  After six yers he moved to Berkeley in 1977.  Later he  became an administrative law judge ( in labor relations and arbitration) in the San Francisco/Oakland District. He retired in 2014.  

Jay moved from Oakland where he lived for twenty years. His wife died 6 years ago. He has two grand children in the area.  

He no longer travel but had been to England, France, Germany,  Switzerland , Jamaica and Mexico.  He chose THD based on his Google search to be one of the best independent living community in the East Bay. Jay loves to work in the Gym and play poker on line. Too bad he does not play bridge.

Recently I introduced Jay to Ladder Ball and Chair Volleyball. He told me he loves both physical activities and will continue playing ladder ball and chair volleyball in the coming months.  I have introduced Jay to several old residents here at THD and I am delighted to be his Greeter. Again, Please welcome Jay to THD".

Recipe for Chicken Adobo-Philippine National Dish

Use Chicken thighs, but you can use any cuts that you like. Breast is healthiest, but the most common is chicken wings!

• Brown your chicken on both sides on your pan using any cooking oil, then remove and set aside

• Using the same pan, sauté garlic and onion on High heat until fragrant

• Return chicken onto pan, add your soy sauce, vinegar, water, salt, brown sugar, and pepper—Optional: Bay leaves and Sprite

• Cover with lid and leave it on Low-Medium Heat to simmer for 30-45 minutes. Check once in a while. When the meat is fork tender, it is ready.

I used to be afraid to use vinegar, but now I use a little more of it. I was taught 1:1:1 ratio of Soy Sauce:Vinegar:Water in school in the Philippines, but I like the taste of 1:0.5:0.5 better!! I only add 1-2 Bay Leaves and cut each in half, but depends on how I feel that day!

It is very similar to my own recipe. This posting is inspired by the numerous positive reactions I received when this dish was featured here at Newton's Restaurant ( The Heritage Downtown), Walnut Creek during the celebration of Filipino American History Month last  October.  For details visit:
